Listowel and the North Kerry/West Limerick area have much to offer. Listowel is the principal town in north Kerry, and a vibrant commercial hub, constantly improving and expanding. There are several great restaurants, boutiques, retail outlets, supermarkets, a theatre, music venue, community centre and gym, schools and sporting facilities in the town. Listowel has heritage town designation and widely recognised as the literary and cultural capital of Ireland, hosting yearly festivals such as Writers Week, Listowel International Storytelling Festival and Revival music festival. Listowel Food Fair is the longest running food festival in Ireland and the Listowel Harvest Festival and Races has been running for 150 years. Listowel is also a regular winner of the National Tidy Towns prize.
Listowel is also close to beaches, world-famous golf courses, and the prime tourist destinations of the Wild Atlantic Way. The Limerick to Kerry Greenway starts in Listowel and offers over 40km of walking and cycling paths. Listowel has the benefit of a national bus route which operates every two hours, linking all major towns and cities. It is convenient to Kerry regional airport and Shannon International airport. The major tourist destinations of Killarney and Dingle are within easy reach, with a national train service operating in nearby Tralee.
